Though tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, onions, etc. are all the main produce that are shipped out from Windmill Farms, they are beginning to get their foot in the door on another crop. The new crop is one that comes with a lot of controversy but is an emerging plant everywhere. The plant is: Hemp. This is a plant like marajuana, but is legal because it does not have the same hallucigan and smokeable plant as marajuana does. This plant is primarily grown to make products like CBD oil or lotion. Another popular product that is made from this crop are the CBD gummies. These products help with pain relief, anxiety, stress, etc. and are becoming very popular in the United States. There are currently laws being passed in congress that are impacting the allowances of dealing with this product, but most farmers are all about getting on board with this new crop.

The owners at Windmill Farms have not yet made the transition fully to Hemp, and likely won't do so for a while; however, they are partnering with some farmers from up North that have been working hemp previously and who know all about the crop. These farmers came and planted to crop in one of the greenhouses at the Windmill Farms location. Owners say that if this is a successful crop and draws in a good profit margin that they might convert completely to this crop a few years down the road.

For now, Windmill Farms still remains doing what it does best: growing fresh and delicious produce for their consumers. However, change can be a good thing and at Windmill Farms the owners are keeping an open mind and welcoming whatever the future may bring.

Stay tuned to learn more about the progress of this crop and about the transition Windmill Farms may make in short years to come.
